The Weekend Intensive (IRL): Long Weekend Retreat starting April 18
Friday April 18-Monday April 21
The vibe: you, me, 3-5 of our new best friends, and a few amazing guest authors and facilitators.
We’ll meet at our luxury compound, where you will have a private room with a dedicated workstation as well as access to our pool, space for movement, and gorgeous desert land to wander. You’ll arrive on Friday afternoon at your convenience, get settled in the house, and we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner together as a group.
Your time is yours to use as you please. If you want to hole up in your room, survive on the snacks I drop at your door, and bang out a whole new draft, this space will support you. If you want to be surrounded by others, working asynchronously and regularly coming together for group craft classes, guest author sessions, guided movement classes, and readings, this space will support you. We’ll enjoy delicious group dinners, with a guest author joining us each evening.
Dinners are communal (though it is always your option to keep working in your room if you prefer). Lunch is served buffet style in our communal kitchen or brought directly to your room (your choice). The house will be stocked with breakfast foods, snacks, and beverages for you. Twice a day, I will bring snacks to your door.
Aside from preparing your own breakfast, you will not be responsible for preparing food or performing domestic labor in the house. Your only work here is to think, write, and connect with your creative practice.

All meals, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks
Luxury lodging with pool and private room/workspace
All creative and wellness programming

Travel and transport
You’ll get yourself to Tucson, Arizona, which is conveniently serviced by both our tiny cute local airport (TUS) and the behemoth Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), which is about a 90-minute drive away. Uber and Lyft serve TUS and PHX, and PHX also offers the cost-effective Groome Transportation group shuttle to and from central Tucson, where I or Uber/Lyft can pick you up and drop you off.
Non-programmed excursions
I am happy to help you arrange anything you might like to see/do!
Things to note
Because we will be living together, albeit briefly, I work hard to curate a diverse cohort with great vibes. We are here to work, but we are also here to breathe and play, so it’s crucial we’re all on the same page. To support this aim, The Weekend Intensive is application-based. To apply, please answer these questions and email them to me. If I think you might be a good fit, I will reach out to schedule a brief Zoom or phone interview.
April is a temperate month in Arizona, with historical average temperatures ranging from a low of 50 to a high of 85. The sun is very strong here, so I highly recommend a wide-brimmed hat, light loose layers, and lots of sunscreen.
By design, there is no group workshop/group feedback component to this residency. While I recognize the power of peer-to-peer feedback, this space prioritizes the generation of your own work, and as such there is no assigned reading or reciprocal response obligation.
I am very pleased to accommodate your dietary needs. Whether you have serious allergies/celiac/similar, or simply have nutrition or culinary preferences, I’ll work with you to create a menu that will work for you. Based on any food allergies in the population of the house, we may elect to eliminate certain allergens (such as peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, etc) from the house altogether. I ask and expect full cooperation with this and any other community safety concern.
While the acute phase of the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved, we are still collectively living in an immunological situation that is complicated for some bodies. To keep the house as healthy and accessible as possible for all, I require a negative rapid Covid test prior to travel and upon arrival. I also require that residents wear a face mask for group travel (such as planes) en route to residency, and that any resident with symptoms of illness test on site. In the event that a resident tests positive for Covid or other serious illness upon arrival or during the residency period, that resident will be transferred to a private hotel room where they can isolate, recover, and join residency programming via videoconference as desired. I recognize that these policies may run counter to your personal practices and beliefs, and I thank you in advance for your cooperation.
